Deep within the Carnival, sat the tent of the Empress. Large and majestic, it stood the tallest among the other tents, caravans, mazes and tents. Humans wandered about as their shrieks of terror filled the air like a symphony amongst the bells, whistles and demonic growls. It all flowed like a Gothic, sinful orchestra. And within the large and elegant tent, a handsome quarterback fell from the ceiling to hit the expensive carpets. He hit with a soft thud, his limbs twitching with the last few drops of life before it went still. A creature skittered from the shadows then, crawling to the body before jt climbed up onto it. At first, one would think it were a spider. At first. But its eight long legs were fingers, pale and stitched at the knuckles. Wedding bands sat on each finger. The body of it was a womans palm, the stitches holding the fingers to its torso were red and swollen as if infected.

A strange chattering came from the creature to something above it. "Hmm? A visitor in my crowd?" The sultry melody of a voice spoke as a shadow shifted from above. High above, amidst the elegant drapes, spun a crescent moon shaped aerial hoop, where the Carnival Empress perched. Her long bare legs wrapped in fistnet stockings curled over the metal as she leaned back into the curve of the moon. She wore nothing more than a strapless latex dress that barely reached the curves of her buttocks, tightly contoured to her figure. In her sharp nailed hand sat a heart, warm and sticky with blood, a chunk missing from the messy organ. She let the heart drop onto the body, before she swung down from her perch to land on bare feet.

"I will greet them." She said as she slid into a pair of platform stilettos that added five inches to her petite height of five feet. The spider crawled along the floor before scaling up her body to perch on her shoulder. Her pierced tongue ran across her blood stained lips as she exited the tent to head for the massive iron gates that guarded the entrance to her Carnival. She licked the blood from her fingers as she made her way to the gates, her long red and black curls tied back in pig tails with silver bat shaped clips bouncing with each step. She made her way to the open gates with a smile that could only be described as Cheshire cat in nature as her blood colored eyes sought out the guest her pet had alerted her to. "We rarely get visitors of your standing here.....what a welcome surprise."

Twinkle, Twinkle

The iron gates rattled as the full moon shined above, peeking between the thick dark clouds. Anticipation and fear scented the air like perfume from the bodies waiting in line outside the Carnival gates. Sickening sweet scents of cotton candy and candy apples, powdered sugar drifted from the flickering colored booths from within. Fog curled along the edges of the cobblestone paths like lovers, hiding the horrors underneath. A soft melody, like a childs music box began to play above the cacophony of grating metals from the ferris wheels and rides within. As the melody played, shadowy figures began to creep out of the fog. Footsteps grated on the stone like the sounds of hooves. Some were quiet as a felines paw prints. Others clicked like claws on tile. Soft growls and sweet sounding purrs murmured.

Soft gasps came from the gates as the rusted iron squeaked, heavy gates opening wides as the figures came into view along the pathways. Impossibly tall cloaked beings stood tall above the others, surely on stilts for no living being could be so impossibly tall! Jesters dressed in red and black stripes stood with twisted grins baring sharp fangs. Ballerinas in purple and colorful tutus stood on the tips of their toes, sharp edged nails, hid behind porcelain faces with wide painted eyes.

Hush now, don't you make a sound,
Moonlight paints the burial ground.
Close your eyes and count to ten,
You won't have to run again.
Hush now, don't you make a sound,
No one hears you underground....

The sultry voice from the shadows brought a hush over those entering the gates with nervous excitement. The eyes of every costumed creature turned towards the voice. The jesters bowed their heads. The ballerinas curtsied with their hands to their hearts. The cloaked figures let out haunted groans as they crouched down low to hide their glowing eyes. Wide human eyes in the crowd looked down the path towards the singing voice with rapt fascination.

Twinkle, twinkle, bloody grave,
Hidden where the dead things stay.
Beneath the willow, cold and deep,
That's where all my secrets sleep.
Twinkle, twinkle, bloody grave,
Silent as the souls I save...

The bells on her platform boot laces jingled playfully to the rhythm of the song. Like an ethereal being, she emerged from the fog to greet those gathered. The ignorant sheep coming to the slaughter. Her dark red lips curved in a smile. Her flawless skin was so pale it nearly matched her white figure hugging corset and ruffled micro mini skirt. Her hair was up in twisting pigtails. Fishnets hugged her long bare legs. The only color to her was her dark red lips, the black of her eyes and the red splatters on her skirts, like glittering droplets of blood.

Rock-a-bye, the old oak sways,
Keeping count of vanished days.
Rows of flowers slowly fade,
Over every bed I've made.
Rock-a-bye, the old oak sways,
Whispering forgotten names.

She twirled and spun on an elegant foot as she sang. The Carnival Spider Queen. Her dark eyes looked at the crowd as she approached them, her wide eyed prey, who watched her with fascinated eyes. Her smile flashed pretty sharp fangs as she crooked a beckoning hand towards a handsome young male, perhaps 20, with bright green eyes and dark hair. She drew him against her as she sang. The iron gates slammed closed behind the humans, making them jolt in surprise. Her gaze turned malicious then as she trailed a hand along the males throat. A watery gasp left him as he clutched his throat, bright red blood rushing down his shirt front. He fell to his knees as she raised a bloody razor tipped nail to her lips and licked the blood away. Shrieks of horror broke the playful joy of moments before.

The beasts around her lunged forward then, playful facades vanishing behind malice and hunger as they gave chase to the humans. The queen licked her nail as she twirled on her heels with playful child like giggles and sang.

Twinkle, twinkle, fading light...
Everybody sleeps tonight...
Twinkle, twinkle, don't be afraid...
The dark remembers every name...

Itsy Bitsy Spider

The itsy bitsy spider.....
Climbed up the water spout.....

The innocent nursery rhyme was a sultry whisper in the air of the Carnival tent. A seductive siren song that beckoned its prey to come closer. To part the folds of the circus tent entrance and peer inside. With a voice as sweet as fresh dripping honey, that whisper crawled into the brain and pushed away any desire but the one she wanted you to have. Perched high in the air at the tents center, she dangled there. Red and black curls falling around an angelic face with full dark lips the same color of her deep eyes. Pale snowy naked skin shimmered where long limbs tangled in the delicate white silks to keep her aloft. Poised. Coiled.

Down came the rain........
And washed the spider out.....

A soft smile curved her lips as she watched her prey, a handsome college student with auburn hair and wide shoulders entered. His gaze traveled along the circus tent floor. Traced the shape of the stockade. The Saint Andrew's cross. The mirror with shackles attached to each gilded corner of the frame. Soft candles flickered along the floors casting shadows along the fog that always seemed to coat the ground of the carnival. She didnt move as she let him look around the seemingly abandoned tent. He approached the center of the tent and she slowly began to descend; soft silk brushing over soft flesh silently as she slowly crept towards him.

Out came the sun.......
And dried up all the rain......

She reveled in his fright as she stopped just above his head. His eyes were wide with a moment of fear before it gave way to lust as he saw the voluptuous curves of her naked body above him. He reached his hands up to brush his fingers through her curls tenderly. A giggle left her as her hands framed his beautiful face. His lips parted as his pupils dilated. Her eyes went from soft and beckoning to cruel and cold as a serpent. Her lips parted and bared gleaming sharp white fangs. His eyes weren't wide with fear and his lips opened to scream. But no sound came out as her razor tipped claws slashed across his throat. Blood splattered across her face before she fisted her hands in his hair. She held him up as her lips fastened to his throat. He failed weakly as she drank down his blood with an animalistic growl of satisfaction. She drank him until he went limp and cold in her arms. She let him drop to the floor with a thud, the fog curling around him like a lovers caress.

She licked his blood from her lips as her pet crawled across the floor. Cotton candy webbing shot from its body as it began to wrap her kill. It chittered as if singing a song of delight as it worked its web before it ran off to the wall of the tent. It climbed up towards the ceiling, dragging her corpse up from the foggy ground. And up the body went, to join the others that hung like a macabre chandelier above her web. Donielle swung up in her silk and returned to her perch.

And the itsy bitsy spider.....
Crawled up the spout again......

Playtime Starter

No one ever took Donielle seriously. She was the family joke. The Clown. The Jester. The shameful Harlequin that was nothing. She might have been Axels favorite child but to the La Mara, most would say she was a nuisance at best. Did that deter her from her nature? No. If anything, their ridicule only made her more twisted. Spiteful. The only one who seemed to understand her was Zyan, who fortunately was her husband. But even he had limits with her. Did she care? Not in the least. Donielle had been a free spirit since birth, that wasnt about to change. Especially not this time of year.

Donielle never found better sport than when Fall came and the mortals set up their quaint little mazes and entertainments that celebrated the macabre and embraced the taboos they prayed for redemption about the rest of the year. Donielle adjusted her mask, the thin white painted ceramic was shaped like a fox, eyes lined with violet led lights covered the top half of her face as she stalked through the theme park filled with scare actors and mortals reaking of adrenaline and fear.

Their screams made her giggle as she watched how the foolish ones jumped when the actors lunged for them or chased them down the path ways. She made a turned and smiled at this particular zone. In her white corset and ruffled tutu she blended right in with the ghoulish 'dead' masquerade creatures. One lunged at her and she blew a raspberry at them before she turned as a slider skidded across the pathway at her, sparks flying from his hands and knees as he slid to her and jumped to his feet. He towered over her petite height even in her platform heels, making her clap her hands in delight before she wrapped her arms around his neck. "Well aren't you lovely?" She cooed before she kissed him. The man cried out as blood began to trickle down his chin before she shoved him away. He staggered back, letting out a garbled cry as he touched his mouth and saw the blood there. Donielle giggled as she spit something at him. "Relax....its just the tip," She taunted as he looked at what shed spit on him. And sure enough, on his shirt sat the tip of his tongue. He ran from her then and she spun in a twirl and continued on her way, blood staining her mouth and chin. By the way anyone would believe he wasnt faking the damage to his tongue, hed likely bleed out. And no one would be the wiser of the monster among them

A Haunting Serenade

The wind blew. Seph knew this not because she felt it. Seph didn't feel anything anymore. She heard it though. Heard the wind as it moved through the old, warped floorboards. Listened to the creaks and groans. Distantly, she could hear the drip from a rusted pipe. The house had been empty a long time. Even before Seph woke here. The floors were dusty and decayed in spots. Parts of the walls were still streaked with soot from the fire that had blazed here long ago. The house smelt of mold and decay. Must and rot. It was a house of broken dreams and rotten memories. Of spider webs and mice. It was empty and still. Then down below, in the basement, sat the only signs of a life lost. Of the traces of blood splatter, the copper shades blending in like dark rust on the surfaces.

Seph remembered watching the police as they came in and took her body away. Seph had only caught on pieces of what they said. Ritual sacrifice. Wrists and ankles bound. A sigil carved into her breast. Blood drained from her body post mortem. Seph remembered none of it. Not the ritual. Not their faces. Not the pain. Those moments were a void of black in her mind. She knew her name only from hearing it by the police who found her bag in the house. That was months ago. Had it been months? It felt longer. Then again, time did not matter to the dead, now did it? So she stopped keeping track of the days and nights that past her. Hunger never struck. Nor did thirst. And sleep seemed to come only when she used what little energy she had to try and manipulate her environment.

Over time, Seph learned that if she focused enough, she could move things. Slam doors. Rattle windows. She discovered she could give herself physical form. Though it did not last long. Such extreme manifestations took immense energy. Energy she could draw from electronics or from people around her. That she learned when a vagrant had broken into the house to avoid a vicious storm. In his drunken haze, she had gotten close enough to feel his life force and drank it in like a spring breeze. He'd screamed and run in horror when suddenly the pale skinned beauty in her black lace gown had appeared before him, whiskey eyes begging for his help as blood ran from her lips. But even then, such an extreme flex of power had left her drained for days.

Tonight, there was another storm outside. The flash of lightning revealed a glimpse of Seph standing in the second story window. Her lonely whiskey eyes looked out at the world outside. The folds of her black lace gown contrasting her pale skin, gave her an ethereal glow as she watched the storm. And as she watched it, she sang. Her voice was soft and haunting, melodic and heartbroken as she sang. But what other song could one expect from a lonely ghost?

Here's a lullaby to close your eyes,
Goodbye
It was always you that I despised.
I don't feel enough for you to cry, oh no,
Here's a lullaby to close your eyes.
Goodbye.
